“Why It's GOOD To Take Short-Cuts”

You've probably been told NOT to take short-cuts, and in a number of areas that's good advice. Some things just can't be done correctly if they're done too fast or if key steps are missed. But at the same time, there are times when it's only smart to look for, and take, short cuts.

In fact, I would go so far as to say that whenever you're confronted with a challenge, a new project, or any kind of task, you should proactively look for short cuts. Ask yourself: "is there a way to achieve the result I want much faster?" And then consider the pros and cons. You may discover that there is, in fact, an easier, faster and more direct way to get what you want than you first imagined.

Also, even after you've committed yourself to a certain course of action, continue to be alert to short-cuts. And, please, don't let an unwillingness to be ‘wrong' stand in your way! If you can get over the fact that you were wrong in choosing an unnecessarily long and arduous path, then, once you swallow your pride, you'll probably find yourself feeling extremely relieved. After all, you'll now be able to blast through that task and get it done.

Sometimes we can let things become much more difficult than they need to be. By proactively looking for ways to achieve the same results easier and faster you'll be more likely achieve your goal in less time, with greater joy.

“3 Tricks For Eating Less”

Trying to lose weight? Find it hard to say 'no' to food? Here are three (3) tricks for eating less without *forcing* yourself to do so, each one designed to 'trick' you into eating less than you normally do.

1. Use smaller plates - you'll eat less.

2. Use a knife and fork (e.g. with pizza or hamburgers) - it will take longer and you'll put less in your mouth, so you'll feel fuller, sooner.

3. Eat in the company of others (rather than in front of the TV) - you'll be more self-conscious and therefore less likely to eat too much.

“Kids and Snakes – A Good Combination?”

These days it's fairly common for educators to expose pre-school and school aged children to live reptiles.

Among other things, the goal is to change any pre- or mis- conceptions children may have (which may be carried into adulthood) about reptiles.

Rather than view them as fearsome or mindless predators, kids will ideally come to appreciate reptiles as living things deserving of respect, both individually, and as an important part of the ecosystem.

I'm all for it. Although I must say that I was surprised – but also delighted - to hear that my daughter was the only one in her kinder class to eagerly have a snake wrapped around her shoulders!

Not something we'll be trying at home I can assure you!
