“It Was Just a Stupid Idea Anyway”
Ever had a great idea... only to reject it because it was "just a
stupid idea anyway"?
But... what if it wasn't that stupid?
What if, by rejecting your idea, you missed out on an opportunity
that could have transformed your life? One that could have...
- Accelerated your business
- Created a new career path
- Multiplied your wealth
- Radically improved your health and well-being
- Made you new friends
- Led you to your soul mate
- Revealed a fun new hobby or activity
- Unleashed your potential in some other area?
Unfortunately, we reject "stupid" ideas - and therefore miss out
on such opportunities - all the time.
Sure, some of our ideas ARE stupid.
But we often kill off ideas before we even know whether they're
winners or losers.
An idea pops into our heads... we get a little excited... and then
something happens to stop us exploring - let alone pursuing - the
idea any further.
We mention the idea to a friend who hates it...
We remember someone who tried it and failed...
We see that someone else is "already doing it"...
We realize that "we don't know how to do it anyway"...
And all manner of other excuses!
Now, there are plenty of legitimate reasons why you wouldn't go
through with an idea... but none of these *excuses* is one of
them.
Let me suggest an alternative approach.
When you have an idea - whether it's introducing yourself to that
attractive man or woman in the corner or trying a new marketing
method in your business - rather than reject it, do this:
1. If you haven't got anything to lose: JUST DO IT! That guy or
gal in the corner? Go up and say hello. What's the worst that
could happen? They're already with someone and feel flattered
that you've introduced yourself? So you suffer a little embarrassment... What's that compared with the chance to meet someone wonderful?
2. If pursuing the idea would require substantial investment -
time, money, resources, etc - do some further investigation. Analyze the opportunity from every angle... and reserve all judgment until you do so. Plus:
- Don't listen to people who aren't qualified to advise you.
- Just because someone else "failed" doesn't mean you will.
- If other people are already doing it, it might actually be a good thing... and you can probably still do it better anyway.
- If you don't know "how to do it"... find out how! Find a good teacher and learn the steps.
And, here's a special bonus.
Even if, after doing all this research, you end up rejecting the idea... the research process itself may teach you a lot, lead you
to new and better opportunities, and give you the satisfaction of
knowing that rejected the idea after thorough evaluation. (Which
means YOU WON'T HAVE ANY REGRETS!)
A few years ago my husband and I looked into starting a pasta
cafe. We spent months researching the industry, number-crunching
and fine-tuning our concept... only to end up rejecting the idea.
I have NO regrets whatsoever that we didn't open a pasta cafe. We
worked out beyond a doubt that it wasn't right for us at the
time.
Neither do I regret the time, money and effort we put into
researching the idea - not only was it downright fun but we
learned a great deal about the cafe and restaurant industry (a
good basis for possibly entering into it in the future) and also
opened our eyes to other opportunities which we have, indeed,
pursued.
So... next time you have an idea, don't be too quick to reject it.
Explore it a little further, so you can see for sure whether it's
worth pursuing or not... and enjoy the journey!

“Got an Idea For a New Job?”
You have nothing to lose by exploring it!
Of course you may be eager to change jobs... but worried that
you'll end up spending ages looking for a job... only to get
nowhere.
You know, where you spend day after day pouring through job
listings... applying for countless jobs... sending numerous cover
letters and resumes...
...only to get a “we’ll keep your details on file” rejection
letter... or an interview with someone who seems determined NOT
to hire you?
Well, it's not so surprising when you discover that 50% of all
new jobs go to "Insiders"... people who take a different - and
much more effective - approach to getting the job they want.
Yet all the books, career counselors and recruiters tell us to apply for a job using the conventional "Outsider" approach!
No wonder getting a job is so hard.
Well it doesn't have to be... and it's NOT.

“Reprimanded by a 4 yr old”
SCENE: We're driving through the country side towards Warrnambool, a small town on the south-west coast of Victoria where I grew up.
I'm keeping our 2 and 4 year old daughters amused by pointing out the various animals grazing in the fields by the road.
| ANNA: |
"Look over there - some horses!" |
| |
"Oohs" and "aahs" from the back seat. |
| ANNA: |
"And there are some cows..." |
| |
More "oohs and aahs". (Thank goodness the kids still
get excited over cows. It's going to be a long trip.) |
| ANNA: |
"And there are some sheep too." |
| |
More "oohs and aahs" |
| ANNA: |
"And look... there's a Shetland Pony!" |
| |
Nothing from the back seat... |
| |
And then... |
| 4 YR OLD: |
"We don't say that about ponies." |
