“What About Results?”
Last week I explained why, in many cases, the best way to make a
lasting change in your life is to take a "slow and easy"
approach.
But what about the need for "results"?
Doesn't a slow and easy approach carry the risk of slower
progress and fewer tangible results... which dissuade you from
persisting with the new habit?
Whereas a fast and radical approach should generate much faster
results... which in turn motivate you to keep going?
Yes, in theory.
And yes for some people.
But look around you!
In the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia (to name
three countries) over half the adult population is overweight... yet the bookstores are full of books offering solutions to lose
weight FAST.
And, better yet, most overweight people will say they WANT to
lose weight and be fit and healthy.
So... if most overweight people want to lose weight... and if
there are plenty of books explaining how to lose weight... and,
in fact, there are enough different books to suit everyone
(whether it's low carb, low GI, low fat, high protein, cave man,
French woman, or whatever)...
...why aren't most of us trim, fit and healthy?
Well, seems to me that most of us can't voluntarily maintain
extreme lifestyle changes.
At some point, the desire to live "normally" (or "habitually")
outweighs the motivation to keep on achieving results.
But, as I indicated last week, there is a solution.
And it lies in how we became overweight - or acquired any bad
habit - in the first place.
It was slow and easy, right?
Which means, if we gained a persistent, bad habit through "slow
and easy", we can also adopt a good habit the same way.
But on that issue of "slow and easy" not producing results fast
enough... well, it depends on which results you're focusing on.
The result of doing something a little differently - whether it's
getting up at a certain time or something else - is certainly
tangible.
I mean, get up at 6.00 a.m. every day and you'll notice!
But in any case, YOU need to achieve a balance that's
right for you - a balance between progressing fast enough to
yield results that are meaningful to you... and being able to
change habits at a pace you can maintain.

“Not Happy With Your Job? Change It!”
Are you eager to change jobs... but worried that you'll end up
spending ages looking for a job... only to get nowhere?
You know, where you spend day after day pouring through job
listings... applying for countless jobs... sending numerous cover
letters and resumes...
...only to get a “we’ll keep your details on file” rejection
letter... or an interview with someone who seems determined NOT
to hire you?
Well, it's not so surprising when you discover that 50% of all
new jobs go to "Insiders"... people who take a different - and
much more effective - approach to getting the job they want.
Yet all the books, career counselors and recruiters tell us to
apply for a job using the conventional "Outsider" approach!
No wonder getting a job is so hard.
Well it doesn't have to be... and it's NOT.
Not when YOU discover and apply the Insider approach to getting a
job. Click here to discover how YOU can use this approach to get a job you want.

“The Essential Trait Of High Performing Employees”
In the real estate industry there's a view that you make a profit
when you buy a property, not when you sell it.
Similarly, when it comes to managing people, I reckon the best
way to become a great manager is to hire great staff!
In other words, you'll get much better results out of people...
when you've hired the right people in the first place.
So who are the "right" people?
Well, there are a few criteria, but one is essential, and that's
PASSION.
Now, this passion *may* be passion for the work... but it does
NOT have to be. (Frankly, I don't know many cleaners who are
passionate about cleaning toilets!)
But it DOES have to be passion for doing a good job.
No amount of skill, knowledge or even talent beats passion for
doing something well.
Someone with passion for doing a good job simply tries harder and
goes the extra mile. They do not come up with excuses... because
to them there is no excuse.
That's the type of person you want on your team.

“What Makes a Champion? (Hint: It's Not Talent or Training)”
According to Paul Blackburn, who has worked with elite athletes
at the Australian Institute of Sport, high performing business
people, and others, the champions - the people who achieve
massive success - are NOT those with the most talent... or even
those who train the hardest.
Not physically anyway.
In fact, Paul's study of champions in a variety of fields
indicates that the champions are the people who can PERFORM UNDER
PRESSURE.
And, more specifically, RELAX under pressure.
The reason is that relaxing allows you to more fully access the
problem solving abilities of your mind.
Whether it's the ability to "know" how to hit a golf ball... or
what to say during a critical negotiation... or, more broadly,
what strategy to take when a business competitor turns up the
heat.
Someone who can relax can literally think more clearly and solve
problems better than someone who is tense.
This also explains why it's so important to relax - whether via
meditation or other means - prior to a high-stakes performance of
any kind, whether it's giving a presentation, negotiating a deal,
asking for a promotion, or sitting an exam.
Hope that got you relaxing ;-)
