“Too Many Ideas and Not Enough Action?”
Last week I talked about the curse of “idea-itis” - how
constantly shifting from one idea to another will prevent you
from accomplishing anything, let alone the success you desire.
But "idea-itis" is often a symptom of a deeper problem, one that you probably need to conquer first, before you can
overcome idea-itis.
And the first step to conquering this problem is recognizing that it exists.
Now, I'm no psychologist, but the people I come across who have
idea-itis seem to be one or more of the following:
1. Perfectionists - if they can't get something perfect, they
just won't finish it. Problem is, their standards are so
high that nothing they do will ever be good enough. So nothing
ever gets done!
2. Get bored easily - once the excitement of a new project wears
off, and it's time to do the "grunt" work, they're out of there.
3. Fear failure - they fear "going public" and opening themselves
up to scrutiny and possible criticism.
4. Fear success - they're scared that if they succeed, they'll
never be able to repeat the same level of success again.
5. Get overwhelmed quickly - they can handle a little "idea"...
but the "bigness" of a fully-fledged project stops them dead in
their tracks.
6. Lazy - it's much easier to flit from idea to idea... than
to roll up their sleeves and make something happen.
7. Prefer to dream - they prefer *imagining* the possibilities
than actually pursuing them.
8. Can't and won't commit to being different - to making the
personal changes that taking on a new project - and really seeing
it through - may require.
Depending on the project, substantial personal changes may be
needed - from what someone does, to who they associate with, to
how they think, to how they perceive themselves... to their very
identity.
If a person isn't prepared to transform what they do and who
they are (which may well be entwined)... they simply won't.
Okay, so do any of these conditions ring true for you?
If so, you're not alone. I've encountered all of these at
various times in my life. And, frankly, it's an ongoing process
to keep them - and my idea-itis - at bay.
In a sense, it all boils down to self-esteem and self-belief.
Put it this way, if you think you deserve something more for
and in your life... and believe you're capable of getting it...
you'll be on track to getting it... and nothing - especially not
idea-itis - will stop you.
And the reverse is true too.
How to build that self-esteem and self-belief? Well, it takes
work - what I call "self-work" - each and every day.
Addressing the symptom of "idea-itis" is still helpful though.
DOING what you know, deep down, is right for you - like
committing yourself to one project and one project only - is a
step towards BEING what's right for you too.

“Are Fresh Or Frozen Vegetables Better For You?”
If you think “fresh”... think again!
In a study by Dr Geoff Skurry of the University of Western
Sydney, the nutrient levels in fresh carrots, corn and
cauliflower were compared with those in their frozen
counterparts.
Dr Skurry and his team compared the levels of calcium, potassium
and vitamin C.
Surprisingly, the lab results showed very little difference
between the fresh and frozen varieties!
The fresh vegetables had slightly higher levels of calcium and
potassium, while the frozen vegetables had almost twice as much
vitamin C as the fresh vegies.
The reason? Frozen vegetables are snap frozen after blanching,
which preserves the vitamins.
Fresh vegetables, on the other hand, may not be as "fresh" as you
think...
You see, vegetables lose more and more nutrients the longer
they're out of the ground. So while frozen vegetables are picked
at the peak of their season and quickly packed, it can take days
or weeks between the time "fresh" vegetables are picked... and
the time they're stacked on the grocery store shelf... let alone
when you serve them up at meal-time.
Having said all that, geniunely fresh vegetables - those that
are newly harvested - WILL deliver the most nutrition.
So if you can grow your own or consume produce that's no more
than a few days "old" you'll be doing yourself the most good.
Final tip: put your vegetables in the fridge as soon as you
bring them home - that will help preserve their vitamin and
mineral content.
