“The Truth About No Pain, No Gain”
You've probably heard people say "no pain, no gain". That if you want something really badly, you'll have to experience some kind of suffering to get it.
You may also have heard others say that "no pain, no gain" is a myth, and that you don't need to suffer to get what you want.
Who is right?
Well, we can all draw from our own life experiences to tell us the answer.
In my life, I've rarely achieved anything I've really wanted, without experiencing some kind of discomfort along the way.
On the other hand, I've also known when too much pain means I'm pushing too hard... when it's destructive, rather than constructive.
Never was this drilled home to me more than when I used to compete as a runner.
It's true that getting faster requires you to train and race
hard. And when you're pushing your body in training or racing it HURTS. And it HAS to hurt or you're not "teaching" your body to
get stronger and faster.
But, as I found out on numerous occasions, there can be a fine
line between training hard and overtraining. And far from making
you faster, overtraining slows you down by resulting in illness
and chronic injuries.
The same is true in other areas of life. For example, when it comes to work or business, there's only so much "yuck work" we can delegate or outsource. The fact is, sometimes we'll have to do boring, detestable tasks. Sometimes we'll have to work around the clock. Or deal with difficult people.
It's hard, but just like hard training, it makes us stronger and more able to deal with the bigger challenges that come our way.
At the same time, though, we need to know the difference between working hard... and over-working. Over-working can impede our ability to think clearly, slow us down, and make us unproductive. More importantly it can make us feel stressed and unhappy.
So, yes, I believe in no pain, no gain... but not so much pain that it PREVENTS gain!

“Write It Down!”
When a great idea occurs to you... or you need to remember something for later... WRITE IT DOWN.
Your short term memory can only hold a certain amount of information. So, to avoid letting that idea or thought slip away before it gets swamped by other items of information, it's a good idea to record it somewhere.
Plus, if you need to remember something during a stressful situation... good luck! Stress actually releases a hormone called cortisol which interferes with our ability to access long-term memory.
That's why... when you desperately can't remember someone's name... you're even less likely to remember their name. Well, not until later when you're feeling relaxed!

I was going to write a report on how to publish a successful email newsletter.

“Is Exercise Good For Your Brain?”
You may have heard that mental exercise is good for your brain.
In fact, using your brain increases the number of dendritic branches that interconnect your brain cells. So the more you think, the better the functioning of your brain... regardless of age.
But did you know that physical exercise is ALSO good for your brain?
Basically, vigorous physical exercise increases your breathing and heart rate. This causes greater blood flow to your brain, which improves energy production and waste removal. This causes your brain blood vessels grow, which in turn, improves the functioning of your brain. Again, this is regardless of age.
So no matter how old you are, you can improve your brain power through exercise - both mental and physical.
