“But What Will People Think?”
Do you sometimes find yourself wanting to do something - or even be someone - and feel totally "right" about it, only to have
this little, insidious doubt creep into your mind:
"But what will people think?"
Assuming that what you want to do is legal, moral, ethical and
unlikely to harm anyone... I'm here to say:
"Forget what other people think!"
All too often we hold ourselves back from achieving and being all that we can be because we consciously or sub-consciously worry that others won't approve.
Granted, we're approval seeking creatures - let's face it, we want people to admire our new house or think our kids are cute - but sometimes you've got to ask yourself:
1. Am I seeking approval from the right people - from people who really have my best interests at heart?
2. Will I ever get their approval for anything I do? Or is it never really going to be good enough?
3. Are they qualified to judge me? Do they really know more than I about what I should do (or be) and whether or not it's right for me?
4. Do I really know whether or not they will approve... or am I making an assumption that may not be true?
5. Is it better to seek forgiveness than ask for permission?
There are probably other questions you could ask yourself too -
but the point is: living your life to please others helps no-one.
Putting your own life on hold while you satisfy others is
unlikely to bring you much joy... and chances are you won't
really know or be capable of fully satisfying those around you
either.
It's not easy to forge ahead when other people don't understand
or support you... but when the end draws near, wouldn't you
rather look back and say "I'm glad I..." rather than "what if?"

“5 Words To Live By”
Yesterday, I was listening to an audio program by Lee Milteer
when she said something that really resonated with me.
She said 5
words that I feel are THE words to live by when it comes to
accomplishing anything that's important to you:
"Aim for EXCELLENCE, not perfection"
Perfection is often illusory... and perfectionism probably
derails and strangles more projects and goals than it assists.
Excellence, on the other hand, still gets things done, without
sacrificing quality.
Alternatively, there's the "mantra" that: "It doesn't need to be
perfect, it just has to be good enough"
But "good enough" isn't quite in the same league as "excellent"
is it?
"Good enough" wins you the Gold medal, but "excellent" gets you
the World record too!
You'll be hearing about Lee Milteer a bit more over the coming
weeks. She's one of America's most esteemed and sought after
speakers and productivity coaches... and I've secured the ability
to give you a "sneak peak" into one of her life changing
programs. More on that soon...

“How an Ordinary Manager Transformed a Struggling Business On
The Verge Of Collapse Into a $40 Million Company”
Here’s a shocking, yet true, story...
At the start of last year, a good friend of mine took the job of
Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at a small technology company.
The company was five years old, but hopelessly unprofitable.
It’s backers – a venture capital company – were growing impatient with the company’s abysmal performance and ordered the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to appoint someone who could commercialize the company’s technology – so they would finally have a product to sell.
Otherwise, the venture capital company would no longer fund the business.
My friend was excited about the job. He was a bit of a risk
taker, and despite the pressure, looked forward to helping the
company bring its product to market and build it into a
profitable business.
But there was one problem.
A big problem.
The staff, the CEO warned him, were “incompetent and lazy.”
In fact, one of the reasons the CTO was being hired was to get
rid of the “dead wood.”
“Frankly,” the CEO told my friend, “you’ll probably have to fire
the lot of them.”

“8 Basic Career Truths”
By Curt Rosengren
1. You are not a cookie
You are an individual, and incredibly unique. What's right for
"everyone" isn't necessarily right for you. There is no cookie
cutter solution. Look inside, do the hard work of getting to know
yourself, give yourself permission to act on it, and create a
career that's tailored specifically to you.
2. Being who you are fills the well
When you are doing something that is in alignment with who you
are and what lights your fire, you actually get energy from the
work you do. It continually fills the well. That means you have
more to give, in all areas of your life.
3. Being who you're not drains the well
When you're wearing a mask, doing something that isn't in
alignment with who you are and what lights your fire, you have to
dig into your energy reserves to get the job done. It drains the
well. Eventually, you're going to start pulling up dust in the
bottom of the bucket.
4. You will never be someone else half as well as you can be you
It's simple math. Being you in your career means you have more
energy to excel. You don't have to use up half your energy just
to maintain the status quo.
5. Time won't make a bad job better
Waiting for things to get better is not an option. If you don't
feel good about your work now, guess how you'll feel in five
years? (Hint, the answer isn't "better"). Ask yourself, "If I
don't do something now, what will tomorrow / next month / next year
look like?"
6. Any action is better than waiting
Do not, under any circumstances, sit and wait for the time to be
right. Because guess what? That's never going to happen. Even if
you can't take giant leaps towards change, you can still take
small steps. And consistent small steps will take you where you
want to go far faster than sitting and waiting... and waiting...
and waiting...
7. It's not what you love, it's WHY
It's not knowing what you love doing that is important in
creating that career that juices you. It's knowing why. When you
say, "I love doing________," what you really mean is, "I love
doing _________ because________, ________, and ________.
Back to the unique and individual theme - each person's reasons
for loving the exact same thing can be different. Understanding
the underlying characteristics of the things you love will make
it easier to recognize the career paths that incorporate them.
8. There are multiple perfect jobs for you
Contrary to popular opinion, there isn't just one "dream job" out
there that you were meant to be doing...there are many of them!
Once you understand what the underlying characteristics of the
things you love doing are, you can use them to identify all kinds
of careers that would satisfy them. It's like an erector set for
a career you can love.
