“Can a College Graduate Really Be This Dumb? (True Story...)”

What I'm about to reveal is a true story. And remember, you heard it here first...

A lawyer friend of mine was asked to review an article written by a member of the medical team at a health care company.

When the lawyer reviewed the article she checked the reference given as the source material for the article and discovered that the article was a word-for-word copy of the reference material.

She explained to the medical staff member that the article couldn't be published because doing so would not only be plagiarism but would also infringe the copyright of the publisher of the reference material. The lawyer explained to the medico that she would have to write an original article and could, if relevant, refer to the other article.

The medical person went away and came back the next day with a revised version of the article.

Only when my lawyer friend reviewed the article she swore it was exactly the same as the previous version. The medico, however, insisted that she had changed the article.

"What exactly have you changed?" The lawyer asked.

"I changed the font..." came the reply.

Yes, the FONT! And she was dead serious.

This... from a medically trained college graduate and an employee of a large, respected health care company!

You know, this is right up there with the law firm partner who ran his mouse across the screen of his computer. Only it's much worse. Tell me:

How can someone graduate from college and not know that copying something word for word is not copyright infringement?

How can a college graduate think that changing the FONT would make an article non-infringing?

How can a college graduate employed to write an article think that copying another article is appropriate?

AND HOW CAN ANYONE THINK THAT COPYING SOMEONE ELSE'S WORK IS OKAY?

I guess we can't assume anything these days...

But you know what? I don't think this college grad is all that dumb. I think she's incredibly LAZY. So lazy that she can't even be bothered to THINK.

I suggest you minimize your contact with people like this. And when you are forced to deal with them, as was my lawyer friend, don't put up with their rubbish.

“How To Cut Your Fuel Costs”

Here's my number one tip for cutting your fuel costs AND reducing the wear and tear on your car: avoid "Type A" (aggressive) driving.

Plain and simple, Type A driving - driving fast, punching the accelerator, slamming on the brakes, etc, reduces your fuel efficiency. Which means you end up paying more to cover the same mileage.

A good way to monitor this is to keep your eye on your fuel efficiency gauge, which keeps track of how much fuel your car consumes per 100km (or equivalent in miles).

Heavy, powerful cars tend to use up more fuel than lighter cars, but whatever vehicle you drive, chances are you can achieve greater efficiency - and spend less at the pump - by driving more calmly and less aggressively.

“And The Largest Youth Gathering In The World Is...”

Right now, the Catholic Church-sponsored "World Youth Day" is taking place in Sydney, Australia. According to the Catholic Church, it's the largest youth gathering in the world.

This year's event is also the largest event Australia has ever hosted, attracting over 125,000 international visitors - more than the 2000 Olympics. It also marks the first visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Australia.

The "day" actually inolves a series of events held between Tuesday July 15 and Sunday July 20, 2008, culminating in a mass celebrated by the Pope.

The New South Wales Government passed a law providing that anyone who 'annoyed' a pilgrim to the event was guilty of an offence punishable by a fine of AU $5,500. However this has been ruled invalid by the Australian Federal Court because it "affects freedom of speech in a way that, in our opinion, is not supported by the statutory powers".
